How Laser Hair Removal Works

TrueMedSpa uses a Broad Band Light (BBL) and a Yag 1064 NM laser to permanently remove unwanted hair follicles while eliminating pain and the possibility of user error. These devices focus heat energy onto the capillaries that feed unwanted hair follicles, cauterizing the blood vessel and permanently shutting down those follicles.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment

During Laser Hair Removal treatment your medical professional will target a BBL device on the area chosen for hair removal. BBL devices deliver the same amount of heat energy to the follicle as other lasers but with less intensity over a longer period of time. You will experience a brief “snapping” sensation with little to no pain. The process is very precise—targeting only the area that you want to free of hair—and is very quick. For example, Laser Hair Removal for your whole back will usually take only an hour or so. Treatment for your upper lip will be done in minutes!

Laser Hair Removal Results

Laser Hair Removal is a completely permanent procedure. Once you undergo laser treatment, the hair in that area will not grow back. However, some factors do impact the effectiveness and should be kept in mind:

  • – Skin Color: Effectiveness of the procedure depends on the absorption of light and heat by the melanin in the hair follicle (rather than melanin in the skin). This being the case, dark hairs in light-skinned people are the easiest to remove. The melanin in darker skin absorbs some of the light before it gets to the hair follicle. Additionally, blond, gray, and white hairs don’t absorb much heat.
  • – Number of Sessions: Since hair growth is cyclical – only about a third of your hairs are actively growing at all times – and light-based hair removal only works when the hair is actively growing, you will need multiple treatments (five-to-seven) spaced six-to-eight weeks apart to completely eliminate all unwanted hair. Our aesthetic physicians will help you ascertain your particular hair-growth cycle and the number and duration of the appointments necessary to achieve your hair-removal goals.
